Everyone is out shopping or hunting for that perfect toy for your grandchild, son or daughter. Some toys do present risks, according to federal regulators. The 29th Annual Survey of Toy Safety survey, Click Here conducted by U.S.PIRG offers great information about what to watch out for.
General Toy Safety Tips
1. Always buy age and skill level appropriate toys.
2. Avoid small parts that could cause choking.
3. Crayons and paints should have a ASTM D-4236 label on the package.
4. Toys made of fabric should be labeled as flame resistant or flame retardant.
5. Inspect toys for sharp edges.
6. Stay away from toys with strings, rope, cords or ribbons.
7. Painted toys should be covered with lead-free paint.
8. Keep toys that are made for older children away from younger children.
9. We don’t recommend used toys for younger children.
10. Read product labels to make sure toys or items around the house do not contain lead. This harmful substance can affect a child’s health, even if only a small amount is inhaled or swallowed.
11. Avoid toys with magnets. If magnets are swallowed they can cause serious health issues
